HIGH PERFORMANCE CAM BEARING - The high performance all-round cam bearings offer more than double the fatigue strength of conventional bearings, withstand racing spring loads, and maintain the excellent surface characteristics of Babbitt.

Specific Contributions of the Design and Processes:

• Micro-Babbitt: A very thin layer of lining that reduces microscopic deflections in a bearing when loaded, increasing fatigue life.
• Grain-Controlled Babbitt: Rapid cooling of the Babbitt during casting results in a very fine grain structure. Leaving the structure as cast almost doubles the tensile strength over a standard bearing. This high-strength condition provides the toughness needed for racing applications.
• Burnishing: Cold working the Babbitt surface eliminates micro-fissures that could lead to fatigue failure, while also increasing surface hardness.
• Precision Machining: High-performance manufacturing tolerances enhance control over installed oil clearances, reducing operating bearing pressure.
